Say hello to Purr, the all-in-one resolution changer for Android devices, no root required! How does it work you ask? We utilize Android SDK reflection to access hidden APIs to adjust the resolution of your phone screen. All that is required is a specific permission that can be granted using ADB.
Why would you consider changing the resolution of your display? Here are some reasons to do so:
- Reducing the display resolution lessens the strain on the GPU.
- Some games may better suit a standard 16:9 display compared to widescreen displays.
Here are some benefits of using Purr:
- I compute the DPI using sophisticated calculations. Typically, DPI adjustment for new resolutions can be complex as it requires determining the diagonal inches of each display. However, I calculate the diagonal pixels of the display and divide it by the current DPI to find a fair divisor. Consequently, when a new resolution is applied, I divide the new diagonal pixels by this divisor to achieve nearly identical scaling of DPI.
- We verify resolutions for compatibility before applying them to provide a form of failsafe.
- Custom resolutions can be specified in the settings menu.
- You will encounter a charming feline mascot each time you launch the app <3.
- Individuals with root access can grant Purr permissions without using ADB. Please note: Root access is optional and not mandatory.
- Support is provided for Android 6.0 (SDK 23) and newer versions using legacy APIs.
- Free warranty and support can be accessed via email (tylernij@gmail.com) and Telegram (@tytydraco).
There is one limitation to take into consideration:
- In certain cases, specific Android versions may interfere with the resolution-changing APIs, leading to an error message. This issue does not stem from Purr but rather your OEM or ROM provider employing non-standard APIs.
This project may require payment on Google Play; however, it is open-source on GitHub. If you prefer, you can compile it for free using Android Studio Canary. Note that direct support for compiling the app is not offered: GitHub Repository.
